Rádio Renascença, Porto

The station started broadcasting in Lisbon (January 1937), with medium wave and short wave transmitters, and in Porto (May 1941). Dom António Castro Meireles, Bishop of Porto, blessed the station in that city. Initially, the Porto broadcast resulted from recorded music and the transmission of the Lisbon programme, picked up on short wave. The schedule was: every day (8:00pm-11:00pm), Saturday (7:30pm-11:00pm), Sunday and Thursday (12:00pm-1:00pm, 7:30pm-11:00pm). Sometime later, the station would broadcast Sunday mass from Cedofeita church (12:00pm). The arrival of a powerful 10 kW transmitter (January 1957), and announcement of its erection (May 1957), as well as leaving the old facilities of rua da Alegria street, 411, 1º, for the studios of a new building in rua de Sá da Bandeira street (October 1959), turned Porto’s Renascença into one of the most important stations of the city.
