Rádio Diamang

Radio Diamang was a private station with no economic need for advertising, as it was owned by the diamond company. The radio broadcast from Dundo, a modern city built in the 1920s. It started up in 1946 with three short wave transmitters (500, 400 and 100 W), it was aimed at employees and their families, but also at the entire country, even going beyond the borders. Operating in a region rich in musical and artistic culture, which led to the creation of a museum, Dundo radio recorded on disc and magnetic tape a large repertoire of Chokwé songs and took them to other radios, in previously recorded programmes. It should be noted that the musical heritage has been preserved and is in the custody of the University of Coimbra, while the museum has undergone very recent improvements, so as to recover its former brilliance.
