Rádio Clube do Moxico was created in 1953, broadcasting with a small amateur transmitter owned by Adelino Santos. It only acquired a 1 kW transmitter in 1959. After becoming well known on national radio as a sports broadcaster (Rádio Renascença) and member of parliament, António Ribeiro Cristóvão started on this small radio station in eastern Angola, in Luena (formerly Vila Luso), in 1958, at the age of 19, while working in a public office in the city. He took voice tests in order to enter the radio station. During his military service, Ribeiro Cristóvão was stationed at the Angola Military Application School in Nova Lisboa, where he stayed for four years. He would collaborate with Rádio Clube do Huambo, having become a professional there while working for the Cuca brewery. Artur Arriscado was another famous name to pass through Luena's radio station.
